17 million people with rescue beneficidas public spaces
Oaxaca, MEXICO: As part of the social policies of the Federal Government in the reconstruction of the social fabric in the most deprived urban areas of the country, the Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL) invested between 2007 and 2010 4000 700 000 000 weights in the Rescue of Public Spaces program for the benefit of over 17 million people in the 32 states of the country.
Thus, the unit headed by Heriberto Félix Guerra, still working hard on social programs it operates, and that over the first four years of the administration of President Felipe Calderon has made significant achievements which have resulted in excellent results to consolidate the recovery of 3000 400 public spaces throughout the country.
One of the main results of the program was the interagency strategy "We are all Juarez, rebuild the city," where 90 million dollars aimed at comprehensive rescue of 9 public spaces for community living, located in the neighborhoods with the highest poverty rates were invested , marginalization, crime and housing density in this border city.
This is thanks to the important collaboration of the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, the Municipal Planning and several Research and Civil Society Organizations.
Between 2007 and 2010, the Program for Public Spaces Rescue involved a total of 744 thousand operated sites in 336 municipalities, integrating in each scenario, a Social Audit Committee, composed of civil society, for tracking, monitoring and enforcement goals, as well as the correct application of subsidies.
During this period 4000 900 sports fields were built, 5000 modules playgrounds and more than 29,000 recreational, sports and cultural events are held. Also conducted 21 000 courses, workshops and events to prevent risky behaviors such as addictions, family violence as both social, promoting the participation of citizens in improving community safety.
In 2010 alone, 450 thousand sports facilities (tennis, trotapistas, skating rinks and other facilities) were constructed; 960 thousand children's play modules were installed; 270 neighborhood parks and sports and health units multipurpose classrooms for teaching courses and workshops were equipped; more than 5000 courses, workshops and sports, recreational and cultural events were organized and Neighborhood Committee was organized around each rescued space.
In 415 community safety actions aimed at strengthening the protruding community policing, foster a culture of reporting and promote the development of securities is performed.
It is worth mentioning that the program takes place every year the National Survey on Perception of Insecurity, Risk Behavior and Social Participation in Public Spaces, to know the main results of the action.
The data obtained from the exercise conducted in 2010, after lifting the views of the beneficiaries of the Public Space Rescue Program highlights include:
- 82.6% feel safe in public spaces.
- 17.5% consider very close relationship between neighbors.
- 85.5% attend public spaces.
- 81.5% rate as very good and good physical conditions of public spaces.
- 47.3% participate in the activities that take place in public spaces.
- 90.6% of respondents say they are satisfied with the activities performed.
